Chapter Three-The Riddle of the Woods

To Party:
It has been two days since you entered Nighthowl Forest. By day it feels like any other forest you have visited before but by night the wind begins to whisper a mournful howl in your ears. So far, the only encounters you've had are with animals more curious than harmful. But deep inside you can't shake the feeling that the five of you are being watched.

DM chooses random PC to make a reflex save:

To Athos:
As you move through the forest, your foot is caught in a snare carefully hidden in the undergrowth. You are jerked straight up and suspended 20 ft up in the air by a length of rope tied to the branch of a tall tree.

To Athos:
As the other party members gather around you, you notice a large, horned and heavily muscled humanoid hiding in the bushes. This creature, a minotaur armed with two hand axes must have laid the trap and is now about to attack your surprised partymates. (The minotaur is 30 away from the party)



DM to Athos:
You can escape the trap by cutting the rope (falling 20ft to the ground for 2d6 damage) or with a strength/escape artist check DC 15. The choice is yours.

To Everyone:
Please roll for initiative and declare your actions for the first round. But remember that only Athos and the minotaur will act on the surprise round (Athos, please declare your actions for both the surprise and the first rounds of combat) the rest of you are caught flatfooted.

jukai's action: draws his arnis(Heavy mace) from his left shoulder(1st movement + attack) & right waist(2nd movement + attack). Hits the ground very hard using both of his weapon leaving marks. The right arnis exploded creating a small flame & instantly turning the soft wet ground into hard stone with a marking.

shadowhart declares: Ready to flank & attack Minotaur as soon as it comes out.

Wondering what the commotion was all about,Sand was split between helping Athos or battling the minotaur, he decided to face the minotaur and end the battle as soon as possible instead.

Athos to party: sand is right don't try to taunt it too much. Be careful everybody, I think this one is a hunter. If he gets me with this trap who knows how many trap he sets on this forest. Keep your eye open.

The minotaur releases a thunderous roar and charges at the flatfooted Sand, lowering it's head and ready to gore the ninja. The impact was so great, that Sand was almost thrown off his feet and his torso is now bleeding from the two deep wounds left by the monsters great horns.

With a few twist of his foot, Athos was able to free himself from the trap. The elven ranger falls onto the forest floor, right in the middle of his partymates. Though a bit shaken by the fall, he still manages to land on his feet.

Athos takes falling damage 2d6:

jukai's action while Minotaur attacks sands: looks at the monster's eyes & tries to compare & remember if the monster's eye reflected the same as the tiger he has already encountered at town.

jukai to other party members: Be very careful guys! if the witch we are trying to find can enchant rage to animals...she might have enchanted this "damulag" with rage also.


jukai movement for 1st round:
jukai surprised to see his friend sand got thrown by the monster quickly tried to cover him to avoid another attack on sands. jukai flanked himself with lady adora.

Initiative Order:

Jukai 23: Draw weapons and attack minotaur
Sand 23: Ghoststep, attack minotaur
Minotaur 19: Full attack
Athos 18: Draw weapon and total defense
Lestrand 14: Draw weapon and total defense
Adora 9: Quick-cast Bless, draw weapon and attack Minotaur

With one swift movement, Jukai draws both his maces and slams it onto the ground, engulfing the right one in magical flames. The fighter steps between Sand and the minotaur, attacking and taunting the monster at the same time. The weapon hits the monster squarely on the jaw, knocking a few teeth out and burning it as well (-16hp).

With Jukai covering him, Sand ghost-steps and moves to the monster's side to attack. The minotaur must have smelled the ninja's blood because he raised his axe at the last moment, blocking the fatal blow with Sand's katana bitting into his arm instead (-30hp).

Minotaur to Jukai (Spitting out a broken tooth):
"You think my appearance matches my intellect. By the days end I swear that I will bath in your blood." The minotaur raises both his axes and attacks the fighter.

Jukai manages to block most of the minotaurs attacks but one of the axes managed to get through his defenses, hitting his left arm.

Athos, seeing that his friends have kept the minotaur occupied, draws his longsword and assumes a defensive stance. His attention is caught by a loud noise, like a large running animal, coming from the south.

Adora, calling upon the blessing of Heironeous, baths the area in a warm blue light that raises everyones morale. The paladin then draws her weapon and moves to flank the minotaur. Who, upon seeing an opening in the paladin's defenses, attacks her.

Catching the minotaur's axe on her buckler, Adora moves into flanking position and buries her own axe on the monsters back (-15hp). The minotaur howls in pain as the electricity surges through its body, but it smiles and points to the south. "Its game over for you, my brothers here."

You all turn to where he is pointing at and see another minotaur. This one is larger than the first and is armed with a wickedly sharp war axe.

Lestrand's Action: Moving in front of the second Minotaur, he straightens his posture to battle stance and make [glow=red,2,300]'The Lestrand Laugh' [/glow]while flipping his long, collagen-improved hair and prepare for the Iron Duke technique.
Lestrand to Party: I curl my finger to the smelly brute. Somebody tell him in minotaur to take a bath.
