William Brinkman of the UDE WoW TCG site (http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/wow/en/) for this week talks about the Sword of a Thousand Truths. Let's take a look at what he has to say:
“It was foretold that, one day, heroes who could wield the sword might reveal themselves.”
– Salzman from accounting.
Those heroes are forged from the burning blaze that is Fires of Outland. You can now be that hero.
The Sword of a Thousand Truths just hit the World of Warcraft TCG.
This item dates back to an episode of South Park. The main characters—Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman—are all logged into the World of Warcraft MMO. They’re killed by another player while leveling, so they report this to Blizzard, who is receiving many complaints about this same character.
This enemy is a powerful one. He can even kill Blizzard admins. One of the Blizzard executives says, “Gentlemen, we are dealing with someone who has absolutely no life!”
In response, the question is raised: “How do you kill that which has no life?”
The answer was a simple one: the Sword of a Thousand Truths.
A Blizzard employee describes the awesome power of the weapon. “It can cause 120 damage per second, with an instant mana burn, and an enchantment that boosted stamina plus 80. But the Sword was considered to be too powerful for anyone to possess, so it was removed from the game and stored on a 1-gig flash drive.”
Meanwhile, the four kids prepare to do battle, leveling off boars for 7 weeks, 5 days, 13 hours, and 20 minutes. Will the Blizzard employees be able to get that flash drive to the players in time? They arrive at Stan’s house, but Stan is at Cartman’s, preparing for the big battle. Stan’s father, a self-proclaimed noob, must log on to his WoW character in time to save the kids’ lives.
Stan’s father arrives, hands off the Sword to his son, and they save the World . . . of Warcraft!
You too can now fulfill Salzman’s prophecy, while lesser heroes—like South Park’s Butters—are playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
The weapon initially looks expensive at a hefty 8 resources, but that’s just one more than Arcanite Reaper. The next turn, you’ll strike for 5 damage, but that’s just gravy when compared to the Sword’s power. When you deal combat damage with the weapon to an opposing hero, that hero’s controller must discard his or her entire hand.
Any Warrior, Rogue, or Paladin can wield this weapon. Sorry, Hunters—this is one weapon that isn’t for you. Let us take a look at how each class can benefit from this weapon of prophecy.
Warrior
Imagine a large, barbaric Gnome with pink pigtails, slashing through a swath of protectors to eventually strike true at the opposing hero.
Heroes don’t let the small fries get in the way of their destinies.
Warriors wielding this weapon can keep smashing an opponent, relying on armor to negate the damage inflicted by defenders. Your opponent will throw every protector he or she has in the way of your Sword, so this could be potentially hazardous to your health total. Luckily, Warriors have very high starting health and can take the beating.
While you can’t bypass their defenses with Mortal Strike since the Sword’s power relies upon combat damage, you will want to use these Warrior abilities as ally removal instead. Demoralizing Shout keeps your hero’s health up and neutralizes opposing allies. Defensive Stance can really make the difference against rush decks that utilize small, fast allies. The Warrior’s class abilities provide a great mix of offense and defense to ensure that this weapon makes it into play for some real damage.
Rogue
Stealth.
You’ll never have to worry about a protector getting in the way of your plans with the Sword of a Thousand Truths in the hands of a stealthy hero. Remember Vanish from Through the Dark Portal? This is a perfect application of that Rogue ability. Make your hero elusive for a turn, and then use Stealth in conjunction with this epic sword to go directly for the opposing hero. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Just take your opponent’s hand and dump it in the graveyard. Doesn’t that sound great?
Paladin
Solodin decks love their equipment, and Sword of a Thousand Truths is no exception. This is a great target for Herod’s Shoulder, and the Paladin deck can easily support the high resource requirements of the Sword. The healing and survival themes of the Paladin class work well with this weapon.
Paladins especially benefit from the Sword’s strength when cleaning up the board after the opponent’s hand is gone, though all classes that can wield it have options. Paladin decks can heal and draw more cards, ensuring that a lucky draw off the opponent’s deck won’t end the game. Rogues can use the wide variety of ally removal abilities at their disposal to clean up any stragglers left behind on the other side of the board. Warriors can use their ongoing abilities to reduce the effectiveness of opposing allies.
No matter which class you decide to fulfill Salzman’s prophecy with, one thing is for sure: forcing your opponent to discard his or her hand with one swipe of this weapon is almost always going to win the game for you. Don’t forget that even after your opponent is struck once and is forced to discard, the weapon sticks around and keeps on dealing damage.
Now that you’re properly prepared to save your own world, it’s time to begin your search for the Sword of a Thousand Truths. Are you ready for such an epic adventure? Find the Sword and become the savior of the World . . .
. . . of Warcraft.
